The Edmonton Oilers recently released their schedule for the 2026-27 season with the highlights being that this season is the first, since the early 1990's that will feature an 84-game regular season.

Since the schedule released, here at Oil on Whyte are taking a look at each month the Oilers will play with the last installment being about the Oilers October (and September) season opening outlook ahead of the 2026-27 season.

As we move ahead into the month of November, it becomes the month that really ramps up the season for the Oilers with plenty of key dates, action, storylines, and more.

November key dates

November sees the Oilers begin the month on the second half of a back-to-back against the New York Islanders and New York Rangers, finishing the road trip just two days later when they face the New Jersey Devils.

They then return home for a four game homestand before returning to the Eastern Conference once again for a six game road trip, ending it on a back-to-back once again. They finish off the month with two straight games at home before ending how they began with another back-to-back, this time a home-and-home against the Seattle Kraken.

The highly publicized American Thanksgiving lands on November 26th, which is an important date on the hockey calendar because that is historically the time where we get a sense of which teams are in the playoff picture. Famously, the Oilers hit this mark outside the postseason but still managed to squeeze their way in.

As well, it is the last full month that teams have to negotiate contracts with their restricted free agents for them to play games that season.

November is a busy month for the Oilers

Not only is November significant on the NHL calendar because of it's significance for playoff implications, this year it is where the Oilers have two back-to-backs. It is also the month where the Oilers have their most action, playing 15 games in total.

It also has the Oilers longest road trip of the year at six games and has a total of nine games on the road, compared to just six at home. Making the month of November a crucial month and an incredibly grueling one for the Oilers

On top of the busyness of the month, the Oilers are also set to face some tough opponents like the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Carolina Hurricanes on November 21st. They will also face the last two teams that have handed them playoff defeat in the Florida Panthers and the Anaheim Ducks, who recently overcame the threat of an offer sheet to franchise centre, Leo Carlsson.

The 2026-27 season will surely deal the Oilers their share of interesting obstacles from a new and controversial head coach to some major moves made this summer by general manager Stan Bowman, it should be an interesting season.
