In this article about players for the Edmonton Oilers to trade for from lower-ranked NHL teams, we are heading back to the Pacific Division. As I went through the league’s bottom teams, I realized that the Western Conference teams are not very good.

Of the four teams I have done already, there has only been one Eastern Conference team. So far I have done the Columbus Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks, Anaheim Ducks and Arizona Coyotes. Of the bottom 5 teams in the league, 4 of them are from the West and 2 are from the Pacific. This is why the Edmonton Oilers need to make a move this season cause it should be an easier run to the Finals.

San Jose Sharks 41 Points(15-25-11)

The San Jose Sharks are far from the team they were a few years ago. They used to be a favourite to win the Cup, the last couple of seasons they have been basement dwelling. They have been sellers at the deadline the last couple of seasons.

They are going to be sellers again this season. They are likely going to be moving on from most of their UFA’s and some of their RFA’s as well. The Edmonton Oilers could use some of them in their playoff run.

Timo Meier(28G-20A)

There is no doubt that this has been one of Timo Meier’s better seasons when it comes to scoring goals. He is currently on pace to score 45 goals. Now the Edmonton Oilers aren’t really in need of more goals, but I think Meier would be a solid addition for the Edmonton Oilers.

He is going to be an RFA at the end of the season so, the Edmonton Oilers would still have control of him after this season. The only concern would be what it would cost to re-sign. Going the other way in this trade would have to be either Puljujarvi or Foegele.

Nick Bonino(9G-8A)

Nick Bonino would obviously be more of a depth veteran addition. Bonino has won two Stanley Cups and with the Edmonton Oilers looking to win a Cup the more experience the better and Bonino has plenty of playoff experience. In his 14 seasons in the NHL, he has played 105 games in the playoffs. That is a lot of playoff games.

I think he would slide in on the bottom six for the Edmonton Oilers. He could play on the penalty kill as well as take faceoffs. This season so far he has a 51.1 faceoff percentage. This is something that a playoff-bound team can never have enough of.

Edmonton Oilers Area Of Need

The question does a trade with the San Jose Shark make sense for the Edmonton Oilers? They really only have a few assets the Edmonton Oilers can add, but they aren’t really areas is which they need help.

The Edmonton Oilers need to add at least one more solid defenseman. The Sharks don’t really have any of those to offer. This is why while there are a few players the Oilers could add as a luxury they need to add players in other areas first.
