The National Hockey League's trade deadline day is always a busy day with plenty of moves and even more speculation. In a hockey hot bed like Edmonton, the Oilers are always filled with plenty of rumours and trade buzz.

When speaking with media, Oilers general manager Stan Bowman indicated that the Oilers could be done but did not shut the door on a potential depth addition. This morning, NHL insider Kevin Weekes said that the Oilers have spoken to Sergei Bobrovsky about a potential move ahead of the trade deadline.

Things can change fast and the latest rumours appear to be that the Oilers are still in talks to acquire Toronto Maple Leafs pending unrestricted free agent winger in Bobby McMann.

Bobby McMann is a perfect trade fit for the Oilers

The 29 year old pending UFA is fron Wainwright, Alberta and is a great fit for the Oilers in a wide variety of ways. He plays a power game, throwing the body and forechecking hard with solid production, having scored 19 goals and 13 assists for 31 points in 60 games this season. This gives him versatility to play up-and-down the lineup, something that is very valuable especially down the stretch in a Stanley Cup playoff run.

McMann also has an affordable contract with a $1.35 million annual cap hit, allowing him to be retained to $675,000. This would help with the new rules of playoff cap compliance and allows the Oilers to require minimal roster moves to fit him in.

According to NHL insider Darren Dreger, the rumoured asking price for McMann is similar to that of Kiefer Sherwood, who was acquired by the San Jose Sharks from the Vancouver Canucks for minor league forward Cole Clayton and second round picks in 2026 and 2027.

This is something that the Oilers have with the club having both of their seconds in both of those years and with three third round picks over the next three drafts as well. There is still time before the 3:00 PM deadline and with the Oilers having a need to acquire depth offence, a McMann acquisition would be very welcomed.
