Last night the Edmonton Oilers kept the momentum of their big win against the Colorado Avalanche going. Heading into the game last night my concern for the Oilers was the fact that they were so emotionally charged from playing and beating the Avalanche that there was going to be emotional exhaustion when they faced the Calgary Flames last night.

I couldn't have been more wrong, while it wasn't the most exciting BOA with the lack of importance in this game. The game itself though was fairly exciting, it was a little scrappy throughout. The best part is the fact that the Oilers got the two points and the Canucks lost to the Kings so the Oilers gained two points making the gap 3 points with an Oilers game in hand.

As soon as Leon Draisaitl scored his powerplay goal I had a feeling that the Oilers were going to win. The way they have been playing lately I knew they weren't going to let this game slip away like the Oilers of old used to. I was almost proven wrong as the Flames did end up evening the score in the third, but the Oilers quickly retook the lead.

Another thing to note is Connor McDavid got another two points last night in the race for the Art Ross. Looking at the numbers I don't think it is going to happen. He is now 6 points behind Kucherov and McDavid only has one game in hand. Kucherov is putting up a lot of points lately. If McDavid hopes to catch Kucherov he is going to need to have a 4 or 5-point game to close that gap.

The Edmonton Oilers now have a couple of days off as they don't play again till Wednesday. They will host the Vegas Golden Knights at home. If the Oilers can win this game then they will almost guarantee home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Something that will be very beneficial to them as they have a really good record at home this season.
