Waking Up With The Edmonton Oilers- Depression Starts To Set In

The Oilers lose game 3 and are now down 3-0. One more loss and the Florida Panthers will hoist the Stanely Cup.

After a very disappointing game 3 effort by the Edmonton Oilers, they now find themselves on the brink of losing the Stanley Cup at the hands of the Florida Panthers. While technically there is a chance that the Oilers can come back the odds are very small of this happening, which has sunk into most Oilers fans, me included.

With it looking like the Oilers will not be winning the Cup, I have now taken a step back from just this series and am now looking at the 2023-24 season as a whole. With that, I can honestly say I think that this season has actually been a huge success. It may hurt right now because they were so close to winning it all, but at some point this season the Oilers were one of the worst teams in the standings and for them to now be in the Cup Final is impressive.

I compare this feeling right now to any athletic tournament. The team that wins the silver medal feels worse than the team that wins bronze immediately after the tournament is over. Ending on a loss just hurts more, that coupled with being so close to winning makes it hurt so much more.

But knowing how most Oilers fans think, once the original burn of the loss wears off they will realize how successful this season actually was. In a 32-team league, the Edmonton Oilers finished in the top 2. The odds of that are quite slim and for this team to make it this far is impressive and should not be taken for granted.

Hopefully, the Oilers can at least push the series to game 5 to avoid the sweep and have the Florida Panthers celebrate in Rogers Place. If they can't do it fans will hopefully be able to take a step back from the instant disappointment and realize the success the Oilers have had this season.
