On top of this great celebration, Oilers recently extended defenceman Jake Walman is set to make his 2025-26 season debut. He is set to line up alongside his defence partner on the second pairing, Darnell Nurse.
Oilers have the chance to turn things around
It is still early and not yet time to hit the panic button but losing games early can quickly get out of hand and can be costly down the stretch. When the games get serious later in the year, you do not want to be caught chasing others in the standings.
The Oilers as a team needs to step up from the goaltenders and out, with their defence struggling as well as their depth scoring too. Walman should help their defence but the forwards will likely need to come from within as top line winger Zach Hyman likely will not return from injury until next month.
To add insult to injury, Oilers reporter for the Athletic, Daniel Nugent-Brown posted on X that forward Kasperi Kapanen will be sidelined for the next few weeks.
Their two top rookies, Ike Howard and Matt Savoie have yet to register a point on the year with the former being made a healthy scratch against the Devils recently. They will hope to turn things around in the coming weeks.
