The Edmonton Oilers announced their second round of cuts to their training camp roster on Friday morning.

The club released forward Seth Griffith from his professional tryout contract (PTO). They also sent their 2026 NHL Draft picks; Forwards Rudolfs Berzkalns and Caden Harvey plus defenceman Andrew Robinson along with 2025 NHL Draft pick, forward prospect David Lewandowski to their respective junior clubs.
The Oilers also sent seven players down to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. Forwards Connor Clattenburg, Quinn Hutson, Viljami Marjala, Aku Raty, and William Nicholl were demoted along with defenceman Tomas Cibulka and goaltender Connor Ungar.
Additionally, forward Eduards Tralmarks and defencemen Josh Brown and Riley Stillman were placed on waivers for purpose of reassignment to the Condors. No other players were loaned or placed on waivers as of yet.
These moves come following the Oilers loaning both goaltenders Samuel Jonsson and Nathaniel Day down to the Condors earlier this week.
Oilers prospects do not make the cut
Various prospects who were expected to push for roster spots on opening night did not survive this round of cuts. Oilers general manager Stan Bowman specifically listed prospects like; Hutson, Raty, and Tralmarks last month when speaking about prospects who could make it.
As well, Clattenburg was a player who has impressed in recent preseason games and who has seen himself rise up as a prospect. Ungar, Cibulka, and Marjala are two others who have garnered intrigue over the past calendar year. Ungar is considered the Oilers top goaltending prospect to some despite having a logjam in the crease.
Cibulka, along with Tralmarks and Raty were free agents brought in by Bowman earlier this offseason to supplement their prospect pool. Marjala was brought in last season and impressed in his first taste of North American pro action.
Brown and Stillman are two defencemen who were expected to compete for a No. 6 or No. 7 defensive spot.
Every player cut, aside from the ones loaned to their respective junior clubs will have the chance to battle out for a spot with the Condors or will be sent down to the Oilers' ECHL affiliate, the Fort Wayne Komets.
Tough decisions ahead for the Oilers
In total, the club trimmed their roster down by 15 players from 54, leaving them now with 39 players left at training camp. This means that they will need to trim their roster down by a further 16 by opening day of the 2026-27 NHL season in order to hit the 23-man maximum limit.
They will also have to keep in mind that regular lineup players such as; forwards Matt Savoie and Mattias Janmark along with goaltender Frederik Andersen are expected to return shortly after the season begins.
As well, newly inked centre Jason Dickinson appears to be dealing with an injury that has kept him out of practice and games during training camp, which may factor into lineup decisions.
It should be a busy week for roster moves ahead and Mike Babcock, Bowman, and their respective staffs will have to make some tough decisions as they build the Oilers opening night lineup.
