The 2026-27 season is underway across the entire globe with the various North American leagues beginning action recently. The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) began a few weeks ago and has seen multiple important prospects for the Edmonton Oilers begin their campaigns.

The CHL has been one of the top developmental leagues in the entire world. So far, things are looking positive with all three prospects currently developing in the CHL.

David Lewandowski starts off hot

After being cut by the Oilers at their training camp, David Lewandowski returned to the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League for a third straight season. The 19 year old returns and is expected to be a strong player across the WHL, following up on a strong sophomore campaign. The German born forward was drafted by the Oilers in the fourth round, 117th overall at the 2025 NHL Draft.

Last year through 57 games with the Blades, Lewandowski scored 17 goals and 48 assists for 65 points. This was a big jump from the previous season's totals of just 39 points (15 goals, 24 assists) in 52 games. Now this year, he has began the season red hot, scoring 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in seven games.

Lewandowski is one of the Oilers' top prospects right now and seeing him start off the year on such a high note is a great sign. He is a power forward winger who blends his size, physicality, and offensive skill to be effective. He projects as a complimentary player who could fit perfectly within the Oilers' top-nine if all breaks right for him and so far, things are trending positive.

Andrew Robinson takes a step offensively

The Oilers selected defenceman Andrew Robinson in the fifth round, 133rd overall at the 2026 NHL Draft. He spent last season with the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League, playing further down their defensive pairings behind veterans on a team that was taking a run at a Memorial Cup berth. One that was ultimately unsuccessfully.

Now, Robinson joins a Spitfires team with a depleted roster and looks to have a big opportunity to take the reins. So far, this has worked out well with Robinson scoring nine points (one goal, eight assists) in eight games. Being above a point-per-game as a defenceman, especially one that reached just 24 points last year, is quite impressive.

Robinson is a mobile defenceman who boasts a modern two-way style and has shown flashes of offensive skills. Although he should not be expected to maintain his current scoring pace, there was hope he would take a step forward this season and it appears he has as of right now.

Caden Harvey looks to take a step forward

Caden Harvey was drafted in the sixth round, 180th overall at the 2026 NHL Draft by the Oilers. He is the second player the Oilers drafted from the Spitfires at the 2026 Draft, following the previously mentioned Robinson.

Much like his fellow Oilers teammate on the Spitfires, Harvey was expected to take a step forward this year after the team lost many of their top players. Thankfully, he has also seemed to do just that, having scored two goals and six assists for eight points in as many games. For a player who produced at a half-point per game clip last season, to start the year off with your production paced doubled, is impressive.

Again, he is not expected to maintain this exact production but seeing the offensive growth is a good sign. He is a puckhound, heavy forechecking winger who seems like the exact type of winger the Oilers hope for. If he can continue his progression over the next few years, there could certainly be an opportunity at the next level for him if he can take it.
