The Edmonton Oilers still need more depth and a bit more star power in order to reach the next level.

With that being said, they will likely look to fill holes in weaker areas of the roster. One area where Edmonton needs to build up is their right wing depth. While PA Parenteau is a veteran, the pending UFA can still put up solid numbers and bring a lot to the team.

At 34, Parenteau still shows great scoring potential and consistency. Parenteau played 59 games for the Devils this season, scoring 13 goals and 27 points before being traded to Nashville. Prior to joining the team, he sat out six games with a finger injury but didn’t impress when he returned. With the Predators, he had a single assist through eight games, and after coming up scoreless in five playoff games, he was a healthy scratch.

Despite late season struggles, Parenteau still has upside. He is a proven goal-scorer who can put up consistent totals and doesn’t take up too much cap space. Whether he’s vying for the top six or strengthening the bottom six, Parenteau knows his role. A player like him would help the Oilers grow, and they could also utilize him with players that may ignite a spark in his offence.

As a two-time 20-goal scorer, Parenteau has the potential to reach that number and beyond; he just needs the right people to help him get there.

Not to mention, he isn’t horrible defensively. In fact, Parenteau racked up 60 hits and 21 takeaways, and had outstanding possession metrics, boasting a 5.5 relative Corsi with the Devils.

Overall, this wouldn’t be a poor signing by the Oilers. If they do see Jordan Eberle go, Parenteau is a cheap option that provides more depth on the right wing. Additionally, he has proven his ability to score and can put up strong totals.
