At the start if the season the Edmonton Oilers were one of the favorites to win the Stanely Cup. Now if you are betting man, you would get excellent odds if you not only bet to win the Cup, but to get out of the first round as they are now down 2 games to 0 against the Los Angeles Kings.
After losing game 2 in the way they did last night, I can't help but wonder if this team is already defeated. I understand the fact that when you are down in a game like that you have to just go through the motions, but the Oilers looked like they were just going through the motions when they still had a decent chance to come back in the game.
The Edmonton Oilers were on their way to a second straight game where they came back to tie it after being down by multiple goals, but then the team just completely unraveled. I don't know why the Oilers just seem to enjoy shooting themselves in the foot, and I don't think Knoblauch does either. If he did, we wouldn't be in this spot. The Oilers have the offensive firepower to beat any team in the league, yet they can only score 2 goals against the Kings last night. This is why I think the Oilers are in trouble in this series.
There was no secret heading into this series that the Oilers offense was superior to the Kings, mostly due to McDavid and Draisaitl. So far though in this series it's the Kings that look like they have the better offense. The Kings are getting looks and when they do, they are converting them. The Oilers are just not producing chances at the same rate as the Kings are, this is mostly due to the fact that the Oilers a basically giving the LA Kings their chances.
If you follow the Oilers this is probably the 80th time you've already heard this, but the Oilers need to be more dicipline. I am not only talking about penalties, even though this is a BIG problem, but I am talking about defensive awareness. The Oilers are juts breaking down way too often. Letting LA score 6 goals in each of their games goes to show that they are giving up more chances than they should be.
It is going to be a long day for everyone in Oil Country, whether you are part of the Oilers or not. Fans are going to be anxiously waiting for game 3 and the team needs to figure out a game plan to beat the Kings cause what they are doing is not working. They have just over 36 hours to figure it out, if they don't the Oilers might as well start dusting off their golf clubs.
