As we celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving, it’s a good time to reflect on what we’re thankful for as Edmonton Oilers fans. Even though this team is off to a terrible 0-3 start to the season, there’s still plenty to appreciate about this past year and what lies ahead for the team. Let’s dive into three things that stand out.

1. A Deep Playoff Run

While the sting of losing in Game 7 will linger, there’s a lot to be grateful for in the Oilers' thrilling playoff journey. Watching the team battle all the way to the Stanley Cup Final is something that fans won’t soon forget. From unforgettable moments on the ice to the electric atmosphere in Rogers Place, this playoff run gave us memories that will last a lifetime. It was a reminder of what makes playoff hockey so special and showed that this team has the potential to go all the way. Hopefully, last season's experience will serve as motivation to get back to the Final and finish the job.

2. The Gift of Watching Connor McDavid Night After Night

There are only so many years left where we get to watch Connor McDavid in his prime, and that’s something we should never take for granted. As Oilers fans, we’re lucky to watch one of the greatest players in NHL history every time the team takes the ice. McDavid’s skill, speed, and vision are unmatched, and whether it’s a jaw-dropping goal or a game-changing play, he always gives fans something to cheer about. As long as McDavid is on this roster, we’ll always have something special to be thankful for.

3. Leon Draisaitl’s 8-Year Extension

Losing Leon Draisaitl would have been a nightmare scenario, but Oilers fans can rest easy knowing that the superstar forward is locked in for eight more years. While the $14 million cap hit is steep, it’s a price worth paying to keep one of the best players in the league. Draisaitl has been a force for the Oilers, and his commitment to staying in Edmonton shows his belief in the team’s future. With McDavid and Draisaitl leading the charge, the Oilers are positioned to contend for years to come.

This Thanksgiving, let’s be grateful for the unforgettable playoff moments, the joy of watching McDavid, and the stability Draisaitl’s extension brings. There’s a lot to be excited about in Oil Country!
