On Monday, the NHL unveiled "Hometown Remix" jerseys for all 32 teams. Each jersey was designed to acknowledge an element from each of the NHL's 30 cities.
But when translated to on-ice form, is this new initiative a unique, perhaps color-filled way to earn teams victories?
I would pump the brakes on any positive answer to that question.
The Florida Panthers, Chicago Blackhawks, and San Jose Sharks were the first three teams to wear their Hometown Remix jerseys since their unveiling.
All three of them lost.
The Panthers lost 5-3 to the Detroit Red Wings, the Colorado Avalanche steamrolled the Blackhawks 5-2, and the Sharks dropped a 2-1 decision to the Calgary Flames.
It only gets worse from there
The Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Columbus Blue Jackets were the next three teams to wear their Hometown Remix jerseys during a home game.
The home team won just one of those three games.
The Habs went up 4-0 (yes, 4-0) on a Winnipeg Jets that has gone 0-7-2 since starting the season 4-1-1.
That bracketed text is about to become important.
Montreal blew that 4-0 lead during the final three minutes of the third period and went on to lose the game 5-4. They set all kinds of embarrassing records that night, and it brought Habs fans back to the also-embarassing saga of the Reverse Retro jersey; they only won one game with those 2022-23 Reverse Retro jerseys.
The Canadiens are 14-26-5 (0.311 win%) when wearing a jersey other than their standard red and whites

That is truly embarrassing.
At least they won with their Heritage Classic jerseys?
Elsewhere, the Penguins lost 3-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights, though the Columbus Blue Jackets destroyed the Colorado Avalanche by a 7-2 scoreline.
For the sake of doing so, let's add the Buffalo Sabres' 2-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators.
The 1-6-0 record that has resulted from the first seven appearances of those Hometown Remix jerseys is far less than encouraging for the Edmonton Oilers, who are set to debut their new alternates on Thursday during their home game against the Anaheim Ducks.
Not to get superstitious or anything, but this comes at a critical turning point for the Oilers. Though the Oilers pieced together a three-game winning streak before their 4-3 shootout loss to the New Jersey Devils, 11 teams are separated by six points atop the NHL standings. Any kind of slip-up, whether or not a superstition causes it, would cost the Oilers in the race for a top finish in the league standings.
Thursday's game will be one to watch in this regard. If the Oilers can avoid the Hometown Remix curse, then they're another two points better than some of the other teams in the league.
