In a thrilling game, the Edmonton Oilers have stolen home ice advantage from the Dallas Stars by winning the first game on foreign soil. With the Stars finishing ahead of the Oilers in the standings they got home ice. An advantage that the Oilers have taken away from them by winning game one.

After starting the game in a tight style where both teams were feeling each other out as soon as the second period started the Edmonton Oilers opened up the scoring when Leon Draisaitl scored under a minute in. Zach Hyman added another goal under 5 minutes later.

From that point on, the Stars pushed back and were eventually able to overcome the deficit and tie the game. Both goals were scored by Tyler Seguin on broken plays where the puck eventually made its way to him with an empty net tap-in.

After the tieing goal though the Oilers Stuart Skinner showed he belonged with an outstanding Game 1 performance held the fort and didn’t allow any more goals. Neither did the Dallas Stars, for what was essentially two periods as it took till just over 30 seconds into the second overtime for the Oilers captain, Connor McDavid to redirect a point shot by Evan Bouchard into the back of the net.

This was an excellent game played by the Oilers and it couldn’t have come at a better time. This win has put the Dallas Stars on their heels. Although for the Stars this is nothing having lost both game ones of their previous two series only to eventually win.

For the Oilers even if they lose game two heading back to Edmonton with the series tied at a game a piece is a win. The Oilers this season have been a better team when they play in their building. Game two takes place tomorrow before heading back to what I can only assume will be a hostile Rogers Place for the Stars on Monday.
