For many years the Edmonton Oilers had a terrible reputation both within the NHL and beyond. They seemingly stumbled from one disaster to the next, particularly during their playoff drought between 2006-07 and 2015-16.
Nowadays though, the reputation of the Oilers couldn't be more different, with them regularly held up as a model organisation. They're coming off a campaign where they were just one win away from claiming the Stanley Cup, and their offseason moves have made the roster even stronger.
On top of all this, Oilers fans get to watch home games at the impressive Rogers Place, one of the very best arenas in North American professional sports as a whole. And now, comes a survey which places the organisation right near the top of the NHL, when it comes to quality concessions.
Giving due credit to Oilers Nation's Mike Gould, OLBG.com's Steve Madgwich has completed a survey reviewing all stadiums in the Premier League, NFL, NBA, and NHL. As per Madgwich, the idea of the survey was to rank all of the teams according to several factors, to uncover which venues offer the best value and highest quality food and drinks options for supporters attending games.
Quality both on and off the ice in Edmonton
In respect of the NHL specifically, the Oilers fanbase will be happy to know their team has ranked sixth overall with a total foodie rating of 73.5. Of note price-wise, the cost of a hotdog and beer comes in at $5.50 and $10 respectively (USD).
Certainly it's good to see the Oilers ranked so highly. Although you can argue that quality concessions are the least the organisation can do, for one of the most loyal and passionate fanbases in professional sports.
There were three NHL Canadian teams ranked in the top 10 overall, with the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets both just ahead of the Oilers, at fourth and fifth respectively. Not so good from a Canadian perspective, their other four NHL teams were all ranked 20th and lower out of the 32 teams.
As per The Canuck Way, the Vancouver Canucks were ranked at just 20th, but this was nothing compared to the Toronto Maple Leafs being down in 29th place. The Leafs organisation should be thoroughly embarrassed but they probably don't care, as they continue to squeeze as much money as possible out of their deluded fans.
The Oilers' Alberta rivals the Calgary Flames came in at just 22nd, while the Ottawa Senators did worst out of all Canadian teams, one off the NHL basement at 31st place. You have to imagine -- or at least hope -- both fanbases will be taken better care, whenever they finally move into their new respective arenas.
