This is how Vancouver Canucks fans felt after game 4, a late goal in regulation breaks the tie and earns their team the win. In a game that was back and forth the Canucks defeat the Edmonton Oilers by a final score of 3-2 and take a 3-2 series lead and will have a chance to win the series in Edmonton on Saturday.
This game was a game that had a lot of momentum swings. In the first period at the start, it was all Edmonton Oilers. They controlled the play and let almost no shot on their own net. The second period was the exact opposite. The Oilers were hemmed in their own end for the majority of that period. The third was a bit more back and forth though, with the Canucks getting the last laugh with under a minute left.
The area I think that the Oilers are going to look back at this game and say cost them the win is an area where they usually are the superior team and that is the powerplay. The Oilers' powerplay went 0-5 in the game tonight which is the worst they have performed in a game in a long time. If the Oilers are able to score at least one goal on those 5 chances then this is a completely different game.
The Oilers will now have to head back to Edmonton where their backs will be against the wall. I wrote earlier that the game tonight was going to be extremely important and it was. I would much rather have the Oilers be up 3-2 and having a chance to move on than being down 2-3 with the potential to go home.
Game 6 of the series will take place at Rogers Place on Saturday with a 6 PM MST start. The Oilers will need to play a much better game than they did tonight if they want to keep their Stanley Cup hopes alive. Vancouver will not want to go to a 7th game so they will also be trying their hardest to send the Oilers packing.
