Oilers Get Jersey Sponsor- Completely Ruins Looks Of The Jersey

The Edmonton Oilers now have a home ice jersey sponsor. With that comes a logo on the jersey, which ruins the nice clean look of the jersey.

The Edmonton Oilers announced this morning that they now have a home jersey sponsor. Play Alberta will now be the sponsor of the Oilers' home jersey. While I understand why the Oilers would rent out space on the front of their jersey, I believe it ruins the look of the jersey by tossing another logo on the front of it.

For the Edmonton Oilers organization, I completely understand that they want to make as much money as they can I just wish they could do that without touching the front of the jersey. Before this, I was a fan of the Oilers jersey because of its simplicity, but adding the Play Alberta logo to the front now crowds the front making it look messier.

While it was only a couple of years ago teams started putting logos and ads on their helmets, I was okay with that because I was never going to buy an Oilers helmet to wear at home. While right now I don't know if they are going to have the logo on the jerseys they are going to be selling, I do know that if they do, I will not be buying one because of that.

There are people out there that I know will buy the jersey because they want to look just like the players do on the ice, but I don't know if I can get behind that. If this is anything like the helmet ads though, I imagine I will get used to it and in 4 months I won't even notice them, but as it stands right now, I just find it diminishing to the Oilers and the logo.

While this deal will bring in extra revenue for the Oilers, it's starting to feel like the focus is shifting more toward profit than the fan experience. From the absurd playoff ticket prices to jersey sponsorships, the cost of being a fan is steadily climbing, leaving many of us to support the team from the comfort of our couches.
