Not an ideal night for the Edmonton Oilers in the preseason

Oilers lost by an aggregate of 12-4 against the Calgary Flames last night, which is less than ideal for this team.

Last night was not a good night for the Edmonton Oilers. They had a split-squad game against the Calgary Flames. One team was in Edmonton and the other was in Calgary. Unfortunately, for the Oilers, they ended up losing both games. They lost in Calgary 6-1 and lost in Edmonton 6-3. While it is just preseason it is not a good look for the Oilers to at least be competitive in these games.

For the team that went down to Calgary the loss was a bit expected as the lineup was not nearly as strong as the lineup in Edmonton, but to give up six goals and only manage to score one yourself is a tough look. The game in Edmonton shocked me with the outcome, having the full top line and Leon Draisaitl in the lineup was a loss I did not see coming.

As I mentioned above, I am aware that it is preseason and there is nothing that I should be too concerned about. If a team shows good in the preseason, we downplay it because it is "just the preseason", but it is strange when a team struggles, we focus on it, even more so with a team that has Stanley Cup aspirations. While it could just be fatigue from the Oilers playing a long season last year, but hopefully they have figured it out by the start of the regular season.

Next. Oilers preseason games 2 and 3 take place tonight with split squad against Flames. Oilers preseason games 2 and 3 take place tonight with split squad against Flames. dark

The Oilers do not have a game today but will get back to it tomorrow as they will send a team to Winnipeg to face the Jets. We have yet to see either Stuart Skinner or Calvin Pickard, so I would expect to see at least one of them make the trip to Winnipeg. Hopefully having an NHL calibre goalie between the pipes will help stop the opposition from scoring 6 goals against.
