The important aspect for the Edmonton Oilers after a crazy week
The Edmonton Oilers are facing significant options in the third week of August 2024. To explore the best avenue to preserve the roster that took them to the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, mainly with their off-ice additions.
The Edmonton Oilers have been faced with a dilemma since Aug. 13, when the St. Louis Blues tendered offer sheets for forward Dylan Holloway and defenceman Philip Broberg.
This had quite an impact on the fan base and the Oilers' management, especially with it being a surprising move by the Blues' front office. This may be a manageable issue for the Oilers, starting off with the cap space they will save, if they do not match the offer sheets.
A bright outlook in the shape of the week for the Edmonton Oilers
Giving up Broberg and Holloway would be a tough pill to swallow, but it could be a solid benefit to the team. This is an aspect I looked at, and the choice of words would be to deal away the forwards who would benefit elsewhere.
Giving up Broberg would be a tough loss, however, that would be an ideal sacrifice for a prime pickup or upcoming player. There are alternatives to what could play out by the end of the month, but to structure the shape of the Edmonton Oilers lineup. Toughness would be the best aspect to move toward.
Adding more size and grit to the team is the best way for the Edmonton Oilers management and coaching staff, which means they would have to let the two players go to St. Louis, another implication would be to sign at least one player.
The benefit of trading the two players on the Oilers' chopping block
As speculation persists on the matter, there is a strong chance Edmonton's new general manager Stan Bowman may trade the two defensemen Brett Kulak and Codi Ceci to keep both or at least one player. This is an aspect that may be the correct route for the team.
Both defensemen had a poor showing during the regular season and playoffs to the point that it would provide Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman a new chance to prove himself as a competent general manager by making bold moves himself.
A team that comes to mind for a significant move would be the Chicago Blackhawks or Anaheim Ducks because of the cap space and talent pool both teams possess.
Evander Kane's injury that will have to addressed
Evander Kane is a talented forward, which the Edmonton Oilers possess at the moment, and because of his broad ability, it would be a shame to lose such a forward. You can try to play it out with the winger and use the forward. It will likely present a good run on the team's part during the post-season.
Going on LTIR means that the Oilers management will be able to save $10 million of the cap space, which would give them ample amounts of money to play with and give the team a chance to become even more dangerous than they are.
