For the second game in a row, the Edmonton Oilers found themselves down 2-0 in a game a were able to right the ship and end up winning 4-2 against the Seattle Kraken. Now there are positives and negatives to playing this way. Negatively, the Oilers need to stop spotting the other team 2 goals, and the positive is the Oilers showed resilience and came back after being down 2 goals.
The first period was a tough one for the Edmonton Oilers defensively as they gave up a lot of high quality chances against. Most notable was three clean breakaways. Two of which ended up in the back of the net the third would have likely been a goal had the puck not rolled off the stick.
During the intermission though the Oilers came out solid scoring only 37 seconds into the period. After they scored that first goal you could tell that the Oilers would not be denied. They owned the gameplay after that point. When Draisaitl scored to tie it up I booked the win.
Interesting Facts From The Edmonton Oilers Win
There were a bunch of little things that took place in this game. McDavid pushed his point streak to 12 games on the Hyman goal. Skinner has now won his last 9th straight game. Draisaitl won 13/14 faceoffs last night, 92.9%. Evander Kane picked up his 600th career point.
The most important thing that came out of that game last night is the fact that the Oilers are no longer in a Wild Card spot, but they now sit 3rd in the Pacific. They Oilers are one point up on the Kings and they have a game in hand. They are also only 6 points behind the Golden Knights with 4 games in hand.
If I was to tell you that on November 10th, I am sure a lot of you wouldn't beleive it, hell I wouldn't have beleived it. Back then the Oilers were tied for last place in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks. They were 14 points behind the Kings and 20 points behind the Golden Knights.
This could be one of the best in-season turnarounds that has ever happened in the NHL. Since Knoblach has come in this team has been a completely different team. Under Knoblauch, the Edmonton Oilers have a record of 22-6. If the Oilers continue to play this way there is a good chance they could catch the Canucks, or at least get close to them.
The Oilers May Not Lose A Game In January
The Edmonton Oilers only have 4 games left in January. All of the games are against teams lower than them in the standings. Two of the games are against fringe playoff teams, the Predators and Flames.
That being said the way the Oilers are playing right now there is no doubt they should be favourites going into every game this month. This means the Oilers could go the whole month of January without a loss.
The Oilers are back on the ice on Saturday as they face the Calgary Flames in Calgary. This game is the late game for Hockey Day In Canada, so there should be a lot of eyes on this game. I would expect the Oilers to not have a slow start, so I am expecting the streak to climb up to 13 games
