The news of the remaining 4 NHLers being charged with sexual assault during an alleged incident that occurred during a 2018 Hockey Canada event broke yesterday. Those 4 players are Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Michael McLeod and Carter Hart. These players must surrender to London Police before Monday.
I will not dive into the charges or anything like that as I am not knowledgeable in that area and do not want to give any false info that could affect the look of the victim or accused. I am going to take a look at how this could change things for the Edmonton Oilers.
The Philadelphia Flyers Are Now Missing A Goalie
With Carter Hart being charged, I would assume that there is a good chance that he will not be eligible to play games for the Flyers. The Flyers have pretty much a 50/50 split in net between Hart and Samuel Ersson, with Hart having slightly better numbers.
With the fact the Flyers may be losing a goalie who plays half of their games, they could be in the market for a replacement. That is where the Edmonton Oilers come into the conversation. They have a goalie who used to be an NHL starter, he is currently playing in the AHL, but it could work.
Edmonton Oilers Not Dealing From Weakness In This Potential Deal
Before this news, the Edmonton Oilers were dealing from an area of weakness as every team knew that they wanted to trade Campbell. When everyone knows something it ends up costing you more. In a scenario with the Flyers both teams are dealing from weakness, so they are both equal.
Giving away Jack Campbell may not be the only reason to make a move with the Flyers. Another player the Oilers could be eyeing up from the Flyers is Sean Walker. Walker is a UFA at the end of the season and could be a good fit on the Oilers' blueline.
Even the reason the Flyers are in this spot is bad, the fact of the matter is if the Oilers can move away from Campbell and hit cap hit then the Oilers need to take advantage of this.
