When it comes to the offseason July is by far the busiest and most exciting for NHL teams. For the Edmonton Oilers and their fans, they did not have to wait long from their last meaningful game to the start of this month. As it is the busiest month it also has the most news for the Oilers and their fans. Here is a quick overview of what has happened for the Oilers this month.

Free Agency

For most teams around the NHL this is a big news time. For the Oilers not only was it big news, but it was good news. The Oilers signed quite a few new players and re-signed ones that I didn't think they were going to be able to sign. At the end of the free agent period the Oilers were a better team.

Re-signings and Signings

Connor Brown- One year, $1 million AAV

Viktor Arvidsson- Two year, $4 million AAV

Troy Stetcher- Two year, $787,500 AAV

Josh Brown- Three year, $1 million AAV

Connor Carrick- One year, $775,00 AAV

Corey Perry- One year, $1.4 million AAV+ bonus'

Mattias Janmark- 3 year, $1.45 million AAV

Adam Henrique-2 year, $3 million AAV

Jeff Skinner- 1 year, $3 million AAV

Oilers Make Some Trades

With all the free agent signings the Edmonton Oilers needed to clear some cap space and in order to do that they had to make a trade to move some money out. On top of that trade the Oilers also swapped prospects with the Ottawa Senators.

With the signing of Henrique, Ryan McLeod became disposable and with his cap hit it was only a matter of time before he got traded. The return for the Oilers isn't so bad either.

The Oilers Hire New General Manager and VP of Hockey Operations

This is the most recent and most controversial news to be broken so far this offseason by the Edmonton Oilers. When the Oilers announced that they had brought in Stan Bowman as GM social media and regular media alike had lots of questions regarding this move.

While it has seemed to calm down a bit since the news broke there are still going to be a lot of people unhappy with this hiring by the Edmonton Oilers.

There is still a couple of months till the start of the actual Edmonton Oilers season, before you know it players will be coming back to the city and starting to skate for what will hopefully be another very long season for the Edmonton Oilers as they hope to go on another deep playoff run.
