The Edmonton Oilers look to gain ground on the Golden Knights and extend their lead on the Los Angeles Kings as they head on the road to take on the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena. The Kraken are still trying to crawl their way into a playoff spot so they will be motivated as well.
Although it looks as if the Kraken are going to miss the playoffs this season there is still a chance they can make it. They are currently 7 points out of the last Wild Card spot with 2 games in hand on the hot Nashville Predators who have won their last 7 games.
Oilers Look To Pass Golden Knights In Standings
The Oilers are currently 1 point behind the Knights so a win today would put the Oilers a point ahead of them. If they do win their lead could only be for a couple hours as the Golden Knights are also in action today, but later in the day as they face the Buffalo Sabres.
If the Oilers keep winning they should end up wiht hime ice advantage in the first round, where they will likely be facing off against the Golden Knights. The only way I could see them not facing the Knights is if they got on another winning streak and the Vancouver Cancucks start to struggle. Then they could possibly win the division.
Of the Oilers next 7 games most are against non-playoff teams, teams in which they should win. The only game against a playoff team is the Boston Bruins on Tuesday. This is a good chance for the Oilers to bank some points in a busy March.
Edmonton Oilers Lines
Don't expect to see any changes in the Oilers lineup today in Seattle. They played a mostly solid game against the Blues, if you take away the first 5 minutes of that game. As always Knoblauch may make some changes during the game but this is how they will be starting the game.
From this point on in the season every game has huge ramifications on the standings and is very improtrnant. The Oilers need to bring a good effort every day from here out. This is a game the Oilers should win as they have had success against the Kraken in the past.
