Edmonton Oilers Will Find Out First Round Opponent Tonight

Even though the Oilers have solidified second place in the Pacific they still aren't sure who they will face in the first round.

While the Edmonton Oilers play tonight against the Colorado Avalanche most Oilers fans will be scoreboard watching tonight. The reason for that is both the Vegas Golden Knights and the Los Angeles Kings play tonight and how those games turnout will depend on who the Oilers play in the first round.

For the Oilers I know they don't care who they will be playing in the first round cause they should be able to beat each of the teams, but for fans, there are two sides I think they stand on. They either want to play the Knights or not play the Knights.

Why did I not say anything about the Kings? I think most fans see this in the above two ways for these reasons. They want to play the Knights cause they want to slay their demons in the first round or they don't want to play the Knights because the Knights beat them last year and will beat them again.

If it was up to me I would rather play the Knights in the first round. The Knights are a team that will only get better the more momentum they can build up in these playoffs. If you get them early before they can find their groove they will be an easier out.

How Can Tonight Change The Standings?

If the Golden Knights get any type of win the Oilers will play the Knights in round one. If the Knights lose in any way and the Kings win, the Oilers will play the Kings. If the Kings lose in overtime and the Knights lose in regulation the Oilers will also face the Kings.

Considering both of these teams are playing bottom-dwelling teams there is a good chance they both win. If that is the case the Oilers will face the Vegas Golden Knights. As I said at the start I don't think it matters who the Oilers play in round one as I think they will win against either of these teams.
