You don’t have to be a die hard Edmonton Oilers fan to have heard about the bad luck that Connor Brown was having last season. In his 71 games played last season Brown only put up 4 goals with 8 assists. To make things worse is all of Browns goals game at the end of the season. When it came to the playoffs in the 19 games he put up 2 goals and 4 assists.

The fact that he got better the longer the year went on, is promising for his up coming season. Brown, who was recovering from major surgery was still trying to get over his injury. You could see as the season went on that he was getting more confidence and comfortable. That confidence peak in the playoffs, where he played hands down his best hockey since joining the Oilers. If he can stay at that level this season then the Oilers are going to be very happy.

Even though Brown’s bonus overages rolling over from last year make his this season cap hit not actually look as good, that overage was going to be there with or without signing him for $1 million. If he plays the way he did in the post season the Oilers are going to be getting a steal of a deal. If Brown can produce at the clip he was in the playoffs the $1 million for 25 points is exactly what the Oilers need.

With the fact the Oilers are so close to the cap ceiling they need players on cheap deals to produce above their pay grade. For the 2024-25 season the best bargain deal for the Oilers is likelihood going to be Connor Brown. From being a scapegoat this previous season to a player that can move the needle for the Oilers, Brown is going to the Oilers most improved player to watch this season.
