Can The Oilers Live Up Too Preseason Predictions This Season?
Last season the Edmonton Oilers were favourites to win the Stanley Cup, they fell flat at the start of last season. Can they do better this season?
Heading into the 2023/2024 season there was high hopes, but after the first month the Oilers were near the bottom of the NHL standings, good news is they turned things around and ended up one game away from hoisting the Stanley Cup. This year they have the same type of hype, if not more of a hype. After being that close and then improving their team in the offseason the OIlers are not only favourites to go far they are favourites to win the Stanley Cup.
Heading into this season the Oilers will not have many nerves because they will now have the experience of what happened last season to carry them through this season. For this team it is no longer is in the hunt for regular season success and now only has eyes on their last goal and that being the Cup. That could be problematic for the OIlers though cause they can not win the Cup with out making the playoffs.
That is the main area of concern for me heading into this season. The fact that this season is cup or bust once again, might cause them to take it easy during the regular season. I would love to see this team have great regular season success as well as postseason success. The fans of this team deserve a team that will have home ice advantage all the way throughout the playoffs.
Not only would the fans like it, but the organization would like it to. The Oilers sell out every game, so even if the Oilers with home ice advantage get one extra home it would make the Oilers ownership a lot of extra coin. This team has one of the best fan bases and the their fans deserve to watch a team have success throughout the whole season, maybe this could the year everything comes together.
As an Oilers fan I personally hope that we can see a complete 82 game season from the Edmonton Oilers, but if history has taught us anything it is that the Oilers will at some point go on a streak where they struggle. In that time fans, me included, will blow everything completely out of the water. So for the sake of everyone let us hope the Oilers have a complete season.
