The Edmonton Oilers got redemption for an early season loss last night as they defeated the Philedalphia Flyers 5-2 last night. It was a close game till the Oilers scored a goal right before the end of the second period. After that the Oilers added two more goals and honestly dominated the Flyers.
Last night was for lack of better terms the Connor McDavid show. With a goal and 4 assists McDavid was involved in every goal. Not only that he became the 5th fastest player to reach 900 points, doing it in just 602 games. That is an average of almost 1.5 points per game which is crazy to think about.
Sometimes you need to take a step back and realize how luck we are that we get to watch the worlds best player everyday. I would not want to know what this team would look like if we didn't have McDavid on it, the good news is I don't have to cause he puts on an Oilers jersey every game day.
Oilers Start Slow, But Eventually Take Over Game
The Oilers had a pretty slow start to the even though they were up by two midway through the second they let the Flyers get back in the game as the Flyers tied it up with two goals that came off quick tranission plays. An area of weakness for the Oilers in the past, but they were able to tighten that up and not allow another goal.
The Nugent-Hopkins powerplay goal at the end of the second period came at that the perfect time in my opinion. It took the pressure off the players to have to come out and win the third, but it also had an effect on the Flyers who did not play good in the third period.
Draisaitl scored with just over a minute into the third and after that it looked like the wind was taken out of the Flyers sails who then allowed one more goal. As for the McDavid factor he was in on every goal, getting him 5 points in just 16:35 of ice time. That was the fifth highest for Oilers forwards. To get 5 points in impressive to do it with that low of icetime is more impressive.
The Edmonton Oilers now have a long break as they don't play till Saturday, where they will host the Ottawa Senators at home. Hopefully this extended break will give their injured players a chance to heal and get back in the lineup. Although, the way this team is playing do you want to mess with this lineup?
