Utah HC to become the Mammoth next season
Looks like the new Utah club won't just revert back to the Coyotes name they had likely inherited from Arizona. Although not necessarily the best name I can see where they're coming from. They let the fans name the team and fortunately they took it seriously and the NHL avoided a "Boaty Mcboatface" scenario that the British navy didn't.
I heard they once considered the name Yeti, but thought there might be trademark issues with the cooler company of the same name, which I understand but I thought Yeti would've been a great name for the team myself. But, I get it. Other names considered were the Outlaws (kind of the antithesis of Utah when you think about it), as well as keeping the current name of Utah HC (boring).
At least it wasn't something hokey like the Mountaineers or the Mountain Peaks or something like that - although the sly reference to boobs would've been fun with that last one.
So, there you have it. The Utah Mammoth will start play next season.
Alec Regula re-upped to two year deal on May 2
The deal is for two years at $1.55 million ($775,000 AAV). I'm assuming it's a one way contract but I can't find a confirmation on that, even AI has failed me in that regard. With the way John Klingberg has been playing I'm assuming his price tag will be too high to re-sign with the Oilers, so that'll leave a spot open for depth players to step up, notwithstanding any moves Bowman makes in the offseason of course.
Regula is a bit of a mystery to everyone because he was claimed off waivers from Boston last December but has been injured so he hasn't played a game in either Bakersfield or Edmonton thus we have no idea what we're getting with this player. There's isn't even much of a scouting report on him, so not a clue what to say about him. I'm guessing he's destined for Bakersfield to start next season and we'll see where he ends up from there.
