Despite an off-day on Friday, it was a busy day for the Edmonton Oilers who made multiple roster transactions due to injured players.

The Oilers placed newly acquired goaltender Tristan Jarry on injured reserve, forward Jack Roslovic on long term injured reserve, and then called up goaltender Connor Ingram from their American Hockey League afilliate, the Bakersfield Condors.
This comes after Jarry left Thursday night's game early against the Boston Bruins during the second period. Roslovic as well, who has already been out since November 25th against the Dallas Stars, will be ineligible to return to the lineup for 10 games or 24 days.
Ingram, 28, has started the season with the Condors in the AHL where he has struggled statistically, sporting a .856 save percentage in 11 games so far this season. However, he will get his chance to prove he can still be a useful piece in an NHL lineup over the next stretch until Jarry is ready to return to action.
NHL holiday roster freeze
Leading up to the NHL roster freeze on Friday night at 11:59 pm, a couple deals were made between NHL clubs.
Phillip Danault traded to Montreal Canadiens
Former Oilers general manager Ken Holland dealt away 32 year old centre Phillip Danault from the Los Angeles Kings to the Montreal Canadiens for a 2026 second round draft pick.
The trade was quite divisive as some saw it as an overpay, given Danault's five points through 30 games so far this season and with his $5.5 million caphit until 2027. On the flipside, many saw it as an underpay given Danault's consistent scoring at a 45-point pace or more for the last few seasons and with his solid two-way play.
Overall, the deal was likely fair value for an aging piece with the Canadiens taking on a potential risk while also smartly banking on the hope that he can bounce back, even a little bit closer to the half-point per game pace.
Mason Marchment traded to Blue Jackets
The Seattle Kraken and Columbus Blue Jackets made the final trade before the roster freeze, as the Kraken sent forward Mason Marchment to the Blue Jackets for a fourth round pick in 2027 and a second round pick in 2026.
The 30 year old Uxbridge, Ontario native is on the final year of a $4.5 million contract and has scored 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 29 games this season. He joins the Blue Jackets as a solid middle-six powerforward winger who has consistently been able to score at a 40-point pace or higher for three of the past four years.
Oilers play matinee game on Saturday
The Oilers are set to face the Minnesota Wild in an afternoon game on Saturday. Both teams enter the game playing some of their best hockey of the season as the Oilers have won eight of their last 12 games stretching back to November.
The Wild themselves are in the midst of a six game winning streak and have been red hot, not skipping a beat after acquiring defenceman Quinn Hughes in a blockbuster trade with the Vancouver Canucks recently.
The Oilers will likely start goaltender Calvin Pickard in this contest but could make a last minute switch for the newly called up Ingram. Pickard has a 3-4-2 record on the season with an .857 save percentage so far.
