On January 13th 1997, Edmonton Oilers superstar and captain Connor McDavid was born in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. 29 years later, he is one of the best hockey players on the planet and now in his 11th NHL season he has extended his point streak to 20 games with two assists in a game against the Nashville Predators.

Despite their best efforts, Oilers eventually fell to the Predators 4-3 in overtime with some strong performances from a number of Oilers players. The birthday boy McDavid specifically extended his point streak to 20 games, scoring 46 points (19 goals, 27 assists) over that span.

Oilers activate two players from LTIR

Before their game against the Predators, the Oilers announced they had activated two players from long term injured reserve; defenceman Jake Walman and goaltender Tristan Jarry.

They subsequently moved Adam Henrique to LTIR and have swapped goaltender Connor Ingram from emergency recall status to regular recall.

Both Walman and Jarry played against the Predators with Walman logging over 17 minutes on the night and Jarry stopping 23 of 27 shots in the overtime loss, holding a .852 save percentage.

This changes his Oilers record to 3-0-1 across his four starts, with a 3.28 goals against average and .878 save percentage since being acquired by the Oilers in December.

Canucks wave the white flag

The Oilers west coast rival, the Vancouver Canucks have publicly declared that they are entering a 'hybrid rebuild'. As TSN NHL insider Darren Dreger reports, this could mean that the team is open to moving Elias Pettersson. This should not come as a surprise given the team already traded Quinn Hughes earlier this season.

It is unclear how much of a full tear-down the team will actually end up doing when it is all said and done but there were even reports earlier this season that almost no veteran on the team was safe.

Coach wins in debut

After the Columbus Blue Jackets stunned many by parting ways with former bench boss Dean Evason, hiring veteran NHL coach and all-time games coached leader, Rick Bowness by coaxing him out of retirement.

Bowness made his debut behind the bench for the Blue Jackets, beating the Calgary Flames by a score of 5-3.

No Point in Olympics?

Team Canada announced their 2026 Olympic roster two weeks ago and they may already be forced to make changes as Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brayden Point is sidelined with an apparent lower-body injury after scoring a goal against the Philadelphia Flyers.

He is now listed as week-to-week, avoiding the 'worst-case scenario' according to Lightning head coach Jon Cooper. Still, his Olympics future is in question at this point.
