Heading into the 2025-26 NHL season, it was clear that the Edmonton Oilers needed to make changes between the pipes. Over the off-season, the team saw plenty of turnover in their minor league system and saw a change in their goaltending coach position as they let longtime goalie coach Dustin Schwartz go and hired Peter Aubry to replace him.
Although these are good steps, the team still looked to be entering arguably the most crucial season in the McDavid era with the same tandem that has struggled for two straight seasons. That was until they made a trade with the Utah Mammoth, acquiring goaltender Connor Ingram for future considerations. Recently, the Oilers also swapped goaltender Stuart Skinner for Tristan Jarry in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Since being acquired, Ingram started the season with the Oilers American Hockey League affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. Through 11 games, he has a 4-5-2 record with a 4.04 goals against average and .856 save percentage. Although these numbers do not generate a lot of confidence, Ingram has over 100 NHL games playing at an above .900 level to give some optimism.
Now that Jarry is out, Ingram has been recalled and is set to make his debut in goal for the Oilers.
Roslovic returns from injury
Announced just before the game, the Oilers activated forward Jack Roslovic from injured reserve and in subsequent moves, placed forward Connor Clattenburg on long term injured reserve and Quinn Hutson was loaned back to the Condors.
Hutson played three games for the Oilers since being recalled, scoring one goal, the first of his career and his first career point. Clattenburg has been out since December 4th vs the Seattle Kraken and has been a revelation since he was recalled, playing five games for the Oilers and becoming a fan favourite, injecting grit and excitement.
Roslovic was quite hot for the Oilers leading up to his injury scoring 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points in 23 games. He is set to return and for the first time this season is giving the Oilers a near full forward lineup with their biggest stars all playing at once.
