The Edmonton Oilers have been in trade rumours recently and it seems that they have finally pulled the trigger.

The club announced on Wednesday that they have acquired forward Filip Hallander from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenceman Spencer Stastney.

The Oilers sent the 26 year old defenceman to Pittsburgh and has yet to play a game in the 2026-27 season, having been a healthy scratch for all three contests. Stastney played 36 games with the Oilers last season after he was acquired in a midseason trade with the Nashville Predators.

Coming to the Oilers, they have acquired the 26 year old Swedish forward from the Penguins. He started the season red hot, scoring one goal and two assists for three points in two games with the Penguins this season.

Last year, Hallander returned to North America after multiple seasons in his native Sweden. Since returning, he split time between the Penguins and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins. However, he only played 16 games last season between both clubs after being sidelined with a blood clot in his leg.

Hallander joins an Oilers team that has seen extensive injuries to their forward group. As of right now, there are six players on the injured reserve (IR and long term injured reserve).
