While out looks like the Edmonton Oilers are going to finish the season in 3rd place in the Pacific Division they still do not want to head into the playoffs feeling bad about their game. This is why it is going to be good if they are able to beat the teams lower than them in the standings. Tonight is one of those games, as they are in Anaheim to face the Ducks.
The Anaheim Ducks are a team that is heading in the right direction but they still aren’t quite ready to make the jump to a playoff team. The Ducks are already officially eliminated from the playoff with a 33-35-8 record, but that doesn't mean that they have given up playing in these final games. Their players will be battling positions in the NHL. This means they will not give up easy, but for a bottom place team they do lose their life if they get behind early. So for the Oilers getting an early lead is crucial.
The Oilers will need to not be lazy today, they will need to get on the Ducks early and stay on them. While the Oilers are missing a lot of their key players they still are the more skilled team. The Ducks will be wanting to play spoiler the Oilers need to not let them do that. While it doesn’t look good for the Oilers to pass the Kings right now there is still a chance and while it may only be for one round having home ice advantage is something the Oilers should strive for.

With Trent Frederic re-injuring his ankle there is going to be a bit of change to the Oilers lineup from last game. As I mentioned HERE I would not want to rush anyone back at this point. With all the injuries and only Kane on LTIR the cap space is becoming an interesting factor when it comes to call ups. I would expect a move for someone to LTIR and with that they will have the space to call someone up form Bakersfield.
This is a game the Oilers should win on paper, but with all the injuries to this lineup there is a chance that they don’t play their best. The Ducks have been known to take advantage of a team that is not ready to play that night. They may not have the skill but the Ducks have the heart and sometimes heart beats skill.
