It can be quite expensive to attend a live hockey game these days.

Unless one can get tickets at a lower price because of certain eligibility or consistently fork the money for season tickets (shoutout to programs like Sens Student Army and LOILTY General Admission for offering discounted hockey tickets for postsecondary students in Ottawa), consistently going to games isn't necessarily a luxury people can work into their monthly budgets.

That said, teams are taking steps to help alleviate these concerns. I already mentioned a few examples above, but it's also worth mentioning some recent in-game initiatives.

The Oilers are among the teams looking to realize this push. Recently, the team announced a new initiative called "Decade Deals", which runs in alignment with the 10th anniversary of the Oilers' arena, Rogers Place.

For the fans that drive to the game

$10 parking (not including a small transaction fee) awaits! If you park in the North Lots, you can use a promo code upon parking to get a discounted fee.

There is a limited supply of discounts available. The promo code can be found on the Oilers website.

For the fans that buy team merchandise at the arena

$10 script Oilers T-Shirts will be made available for sale at the ICE District Authentics stores. To get to these stores, simply navigate to either Section 119 or 127.

Tax is not included in the price. The available supply of these T-Shirts is also limited.

For the fans that get food and drinks at the game

The $10 price discount will be applied to two different menu items: the Decade Burger and the Perogy Dog. These menu items are only available at the temporary food stand dedicated uniquely to the celebration of the arena's 10th anniversary.

The arena's Molson Hockey House is also running a similar promotion. Fans over the legal drinking age (18 years of age in Alberta) are allowed to purchase a 12 ounce Molson Canadian beverage in addition to one Nathan's Famous All-Beef Hot Dog.

Disclaimer: This part of the article is not intended to advertise or encourage the sale and consumption of alcohol. It is merely meant to inform readers of such promotions. Make sure to adhere to any and all applicable provincial, state, and federal laws concerning the purchasing, sale, and safe consumption of alcohol.

How much do fans save?

Combined, all four deals would see fans pay $40.75 (applicable sales taxes not included).

Considering the regular price of North Lot parking (listed at $38 for Wednesday's Battle of Alberta) and an Oilers-branded script T-Shirt (the original price for one version of the shirts is listed at $40), fans are already saving well over half the regular price of such products, goods, and services.
