The Edmonton Oilers began this season the way it ended, with Zach Hyman out with a long term wrist injury. One that he suffered at last season's Western Conference Final series against the Dallas Stars.
When they play against the Stars on Tuesday night, it will be their first match since Hyman returned from the LTIR. He and the Oilers will surely look to take revenge and turn their season around by capturing their second straight victory.
Speaking of injuries, there are a couple players who are expected to return from injury later this week but will be unavailable for tongiht's game. Kasperi Kapanen and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins have been sidelined for lengthy stretches and appear to be close to returning to the Oilers lineup.
Players to watch
Zach Hyman
This will be a big game for the Oilers winger, his first against the team that injured him in last year's playoff run. It forced him to sit out of the Stanley Cup Finals and had the Oilers had him, it may have just tipped the scales in their favour. He will face the Stars tonight and could look to pot his first goal of the season.
Stuart Skinner
The Oilers projected starting netminder is Stuart Skinner. He is currently having the worst season of his career to date with an 8-6-3 record and a 3.00 goals against average and a .885 save percentage. He will hope to be a part of the solution in Oil Country and help turn his own season around but also the team's season as well.
Matt Savoie
Oilers rookie Matt Savoie continues to play on the top line alongside Connor McDavid, a spot he has off and on occupied over the last handful of games. He will look to capitalize on this opportunity and continue his uptick in scoring, hopefully increasing his production to a more reasonable clip from the current three goals, three assists in 24 games.
Andrew Mangiapane
Another player hoping to increase his production, Andrew Mangiapane was brought in with the hopes of being able to find his game after a down year with the Washington Capitals. However with eight points (four goals, four assists) through 24 games this season, pacing him at an even lower scoring rate, he has been a bit disappointing so far. He looks to change that alongside Leon Draisaitl, getting back on the score sheet.
