In what is an annual tradition for the EA Sports NHL video game series, they simulate the NHL season ahead just before it begins and try to use their game to make predictions for how the next year will play out. They did the same for the upcoming 2026-27 season using the newly released NHL 27 and Edmonton Oilers fans will love the result.

The latest simulation has predicted that the Oilers will finally pull through and capture the 2027 Stanley Cup along with some individual hardware for the stars.
It is unclear exactly how accurate these predictions have been in the past but for fans of the Oilers, they can hope the EA Sports team is right this time.
Oilers win 2027 Stanley Cup according to NHL27
In the NHL27 season simulation, it has the Oilers facing the Sabres in the Stanley Cup Finals where the Oilers best the Sabres in a seven game series.
This comes after the Oilers finished second in the Pacific Division standings behind the 2026 Stanley Cup finals runner-up, the Vegas Golden Knights according to their simulation. In the postseason, the Oilers are predicted to have a rough path.
In the first round, they face the Los Angeles Kings and come away winning the series in six games with a 4-2 record. Then they face the Golden Knights where they narrowly defeat them in seven games with a 4-3 record. Then finally they meet the Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Finals and come away victorious, punching their ticket to a third Stanley Cup Finals berth in four years winning 4-2.
There they meet the Sabres and lift the Stanley Cup, something they have tried and failed to do for years.
Oilers stars take home plenty of individual awards
According to EA Sports simulation, the Oilers stars are expected to be well represented come Awards season. Captain Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl come away with plenty of awards in their trohpy cases.
They predict McDavid to lead the league in scoring with 54 goals and 94 assists for 148 points, the second best total of his career, capturing the Art Ross and Hart Memorial Trophies, plus the Ted Lindsay award along the way.
Draisaitl is also predicted to have a career second best season, while taking home the Maurice 'Rocket' Richard trophy for the second time. To do this, he scored a league leading 57 goals adding 67 assists for 124 points.
In the playoffs, EA Sports estimates that both McDavid and Draisaitl will sit atop the scoring race with 45 and 39 points respectively as McDavid earns his second Conn Smythe Trophy, this time he will no doubt happily accept the award with a smile on his face.
The simulation also has fellow Oilers Zach Hyman, Evan Bouchard, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins amongst the top ten in playoff scoring, helping their club win the Cup. Although it is unlikely that real life plays out exactly the same way, I think all Oilers fans will be happy if the part about winning it all stays true.
