Despite recording a mere five points (three goals and two assists) through 22 games played as an Edmonton Oiler, David Tomasek would prove critical to Czechia's efforts in their opening game of the 2026 IIHF World Championship, a 4-1 win over Denmark.

Tomasek would record an assist on Czechia's second goal of the game, which was scored by EV Zug winger Daniel Vozenilek. He also recorded a secondary assist on Czechia's third goal of the game, which was scored by HC Dynamo Pardubice center Roman Cervenka on a primary assist from Providence Bruins forward Matej Blümel.

The remaining two Czechia goals were scored by Blümel and EV Zug/ex-Ottawa Senators winger Dominik Kubalik. The former goal was assisted by Cervenka and HC Dynamo Pardubice forward Lukas Sedlak, while the latter goal was supported by HC Kometa Brno left winger Jakub Flek.

Denmark's lone goal of the game was scored by Skelleftea AIK forward Mikkel Aagaard with under three minutes to go in the third period. No assist was recorded on the goal.

Czechia raced out to a 2-0 lead by the midway mark of the second period, maintaining the advantage for over half the game before pushing it to a 3-0 scoreline. Denmark cut into the lead with their lone goal of the game, but Czechia would ice the game with under a minute to go in the game.
