The Oilers have had another roller-coaster ride to the quarter mark of this season but have stated playing a more consistent game recently, even allowing for being shut out against the Vegas Golden Knights. Including Saturday night's 4-2 win against the St. Louis Blues, the team has a record of 6-0-2 in the past eight games. Some are saying the Oilers are back.
The Oilers are putting pressure on other teams in the standings, thanks to their somewhat hot streak, and that is an encouraging thought for the fans. This is a team which struggled to begin the season as they seemed to be distracted, as evidenced by a poor 6-7-1 record though 14 games.
As I stated many moons ago, there is a benefit to going through this type of turmoil. It helps the Oilers find their identity, compare this season to the last season, and perhaps even motivate them.
Many forwards are stepping up at this point fo the Oilers including Zach Hyman, who returned from injury and scored twice against the Columbus Blue Jackets. This is a positive sign that the team is turning around its fortunes.
The Edmonton Oilers' roster boasts incredible firepower. Notably, both the forwards and the defensive lineup took time to find their rhythm. However, by the quarter point of the season, they began playing a more well-rounded game. The early struggles demonstrated that the team needed time to adjust to each other's playing styles and attitudes, ultimately developing a chemistry and stabilizing their games.
Edmonton Oilers will have a well-rounded season
This Edmonton Oilers team has an uphill battle in front of them regarding moving up the standings in the Pacific division and the Western Conference as a whole. However, in my opinion they will have an onslaught of dominating wins moving forward and take charge of the 2024-25 campaign as they did in previous seasons.
This season, the Edmonton Oilers have the potential to elevate their game, striving for greatness as they push toward the postseason finals with hopes of capturing the championship. (fingers crossed.)
The defining aspect of this season so far is the team's potential to excel despite facing adversity. My optimism comes from observing their play and analyzing their progress with a focus on improvement.
The Oilers may have faced rough patches over the past year, but the team has done well to maintain their confidence. Players have stepped up to contribute at crucial moments, and the roster as a whole has shown a commitment to taking charge of their future.
