In the first game of the Edmonton Oilers season against the Vancouver Canucks, defenceman Evan Bouchard scored the first goal of the Oilers' season to tie up the game 1-1 in the opening frame.

It was a nice goal against the Oilers' Pacific Division and Western Canadian rival Canucks as Bouchard carries the puck down the blueline and wires it from the point. He blows it through traffic and past Zach Hyman who set up a screen to open the scoring.
Bouchard hopes to receive Norris Trophy votes in 2027
This goal comes as Bouchard kicks off his redemption campaign as he hopes to make a push for the James Norris Trophy after failing to secure a nomination last year, despite leading all defencemen in scoring. It was a career year for the Oilers number one defender who scored 21 goals and 74 assists for 95 points in 82 games. He lost the Norris race to Columbus Blue Jackets' defenceman Zach Werenski who scored 22 goals and 59 assists for 81 points in 75 games played.
He will also try to help lead his Oilers to a much more successful season after they had their season cut short, losing in the first round to the Anaheim Ducks. The Oilers hope with their additions, like head coach Mike Babcock and others to make another push for a Stanley Cup Finals appearance.
