The Edmonton Oilers announced Sunday that the club has placed forward Max Jones on the waiver wire. The intention behind the move is for the Oilers to assign Jones to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors.

This move comes ahead of the Monday October 6th roster deadline, which teams will have to trim their roster to fit within the 23-man restrictions and must be cap compliant, fitting under the 2025-26 salary cap ceiling of $95.5 million.

The Oilers will need to do this before placing injured forward Zach Hyman on the injured reserve (IR) list. Although some believed Jones would battle and win for a spot coming into camp, that seems to not be the case as of now.

Jones, 27, was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks with their first round pick, 24th overall at the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by the Oilers at the 2025 Trade Deadline as a piece involved in the Trent Frederic deal to Edmonton.

After being acquired by the Oilers, he played in 19 regular season games scoring one goal and one assist for two points and was a healthy scratch for the entire playoff run. Throughout his NHL career, Jones has played in 284 games scoring 64 points (32 goals, 32 assists) playing with the Boston Bruins, Ducks, and Oilers.
