There have been rumours this summer that the Edmonton Oilers will be unveiling a new alternate or third jersey for the 2025-26 National Hockey League (NHL) season. It has yet to be announced officially but fans have been patiently waiting the reveal.
This was first speculated on by Edmonton Sports radio personality, Tom Gazzola when he made a post on X (formerly Twitter) in January 2025. He teased that there would be new jerseys unveiled for this season, saying he had seen them.
He has since made multiple posts teasing about the release of this jersey, recently posting “If you're into new alternate NHL uniforms, I'm hearing Fan Day on September 20th will be pretty revealing…” hinting that this is the date the Oilers will reveal their new alternate jerseys.
Now, there has been buzz stirred by another Oilers sports former radio personality Paul Almeida who shared a grainy image of what he claims could be the new Oilers alternate jerseys.

If this leak is true, it would be a big change from what the team and it's fans are used to with major changes to the logo and jersey design. This deviation could be a welcomed change and we will not know for sure how these will look until we see them on the ice.
Oilers history of alternates
The Oilers have a long history of infamous jerseys. Their current jerseys closely resemble the ones worn by greats like; Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, and Grant Fuhr during the 1980’s team dynasty with orange bold shoulders and a blue torso.
Using the NHL uniform database (nhluniforms.com)The team has went through many different styles over the years with their most famous third jerseys being the “oil drop” jersey.

They also attempted to reverse their classic look from 2015-2022 sporting orange as the base colour with blue shoulders. This came in as a new look during the Connor McDavid era and was disliked by many.

Around this time they also unveiled a navy blue jersey with no white and orange as the alternate at the time. Personally, this was probably my favourite alternate but that jersey has been discontinued since 2024 and the team did not have another alternate for all of last year, due in large part to the jersey rights switching from Adidas to Fanatics.
Aside from these alternates, the team has also had a number of different special event jerseys throughout the years. The team has had three different jerseys for the heritage classics and two for their reverse retro jerseys they have participated in.
Now, the team is set to have another alternate for this season and it is not confirmed of course whether or not that jersey leak is true but if it is, it will be a big deviation from the jerseys the team has typically worn without the Oilers main logo on the front.
