Hockey Canada has completed a revamp of their leadership in recent days.
Former Edmonton Oilers goaltending coach Dustin Schwartz is a part of those changes; he will be joining Canadian hockey's national governing board in a similar capacity. Specifically, he will be taking on the role of goaltending coach and the head of goaltending.
Schwartz was part of the Oilers' organization for a decade. He first joined the Oilers during the 2014-15 campaign but would split time between the franchise and the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings up until the end of the 2018-19 season. From 2019 onwards, Schwartz worked full-time with the Oilers as their goaltending coach before leaving the organization at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
As goaltending coach, Schwartz helped end one of the league's longest playoff droughts and get the Oilers to two consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearances. Some of the goalies that have been in the Oilers' system during Schwartz's tenure as goaltending coach include current Pittsburgh Penguins netminder Stuart Skinner, journeyman Cam Talbot, and 2024 Stanley Cup champion Anthony Stolarz.
Some of the other leadership changes and reinforcements that were made took the form of the addition of a wide range of former NHL coaches and executives. These moves were made to help support the on-ice/competitive aspect of the organization's operations.
Former Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy, ex-Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman, the Toronto Maple Leafs' last general manager Brad Treliving, longtime Arizona Coyote Shane Doan, and St. Louis Blues president of hockey operations Doug Armstrong will make up a recently-established advisory board. The board will assist Hockey Canada's national teams in terms of any and all on-ice aspects.

Schwartz and the aforemention advisory board will likely not be involved in any decision-making with regard to the 2026 Women's World Championship and the 2027 World Juniors, the latter of which is being hosted by Canada. Hockey Canada's news release made clear that Schwartz's work as the goaltending coach will commence in 2027. That would put the beginning of such duties beyond the end of the Women's World Championships and the preliminary round of the 2027 World Juniors.
In terms of the advisory board, only two of the five are set to be involved in direct decision-making with regard to the national team. Armstrong and Yzerman will help collaborate on decisions, particularly those related to team management, for the upcoming return of the World Cup of Hockey, the Alps Olympics (which will be hosted by France), and the annual World Championship.
