The worlds Series is one of the most anticipated sports events of the year, but there's even more interest this October.

For the first time since 1993, the Toronto Blue Jays will be competing, which means for the second time this year a Canadian team will be trying to win a title. Sure, the Blue Jays are a Toronto-based team, but they have most, if not all, of Canada behind them.

That includes a certain sports superstar in Canada.

Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid was asked about the Blue Jays' run to the World Series and compared it to the run to the Toronto Raptors winning the NBA Championship in 2019 because of one specific reason.

Connor McDavid says Blue Jays' World Series run is uniting Canada

While elaborating on why he's pulling for the Blue Jays, McDavid gushed about how cool it was the Raptors' NBA Finals run united the country.

"It kinda brings the whole country together, which is special," said McDavid. "That's what sports is supposed to do, it's supposed to bring people together, and it's fun to see everybody come together to support the Jays and the amazing run they've been on."

It's hard to argue what McDavid is saying.

The Raptors are the last Canadian team to win a professional sports championship. Before that, that distinction went to the Blue Jays in 1993, months after the Montreal Canadiens won the Stanley Cup. Since the Blue Jays are the only MLB team in Canada, they have a nation behind them.

Of course, McDavid came close to adding the Oilers to that list...but we don't need or want to talk about that right now.

The Blue Jays are bringing Canada together just a couple of months before the Winter Olympics, as NHL stars return to the games to win a gold medal. Team Canada will look to continue their dominance against world competition, after NHL stars last competed in 2014. McDavid will look to do just that in his first ever Olympics, fresh off winning the 4 Nations Face-Off for Canada earlier this year.

Even though McDavid is all the way in Edmonton, he is going to be cheering on the Blue Jays in the Fall Classic.
