The well-oiled rig of a team, the Edmonton Oilers, went on a crusade of a run this past year. It was filled with a not surprisingly for the club, though. A year of broad moves was made around the clock this past year.
That had eroded the spirit of the game from its fanbase to the players on the Edmonton Oilers roster
We will take you through a timeline of events throughout the 2024 calendar year. The beginning of the year, from January 2024 to the NHL All-Star Break, which ended around the beginning of February. The near-historic 16-winning streak steamed from December of the previous year.
The Oilers management, mainly GM Stan Bowman, during the trade deadline. Made one trade with the Anaheim Ducks. He was active during that stretch and content with himself at the time. The most dominant team is the Edmonton Oilers. A team that had not been as dominantly produced since the eighties.
In the 2024 post-season, when the Oilers took it to the limits of the other teams
They played against the LA Kings in the first round and rarely made any mistakes. Most importantly, they finished the series in a fashionable style in game four in the first round of the playoffs.
And then the surging Vancouver Canucks in the second round of action in the playoffs, who pushed the Oilers squad at the time to another level of competition in a Game 7 effort. Where the Oilers pulled off a dominat win in a crowd filled with Vancouver Canucks fans.
Then, taking on the "Dreaded Dallas Stars," the Edmonton Oilers team at the time was a tank running through the first three rounds of play of the 2024 playoffs, eliminating the Stars in game six of the playoffs, where the fans were going insane for their respective team.
Going into maximum capacity against the Florida Panthers, where the Oil fell short in Game 7 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals
The Edmonton Oilers started the series off on a downside note. One of the top player's of the team was battling a few severe injuries that he suffered over the course. That being Evander Kane, who was a proficient part of the Oils's success during the postseason Oilers' of the season. A key forward and a great leader in the locker room and on the ice.
They battled through the first three games in a losing effort, and the Oilers team was pushed on the brink of being eliminated, thus falling to the Florida Panthers in four straight. However, when Edmonton was down 3-0, the Oilers battled back in the series with satisfying wins.
To say the least
During Game 7 of the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Florida Panthers took an early lead with two in the first period. Edmonton replied with their own in the second. However, the score remained 2-1 until the end of the game. The Oilers played their hearts out but could not manage to finish off the upset in the finals.
The effects of the off-season on the Edmonton Oilers
The beginning of the off-season starts with the 2024 NHL Draft Pick Selection. where the Edmonton Oilers management and coaching staff choose forward/winger Sam O'Reilly at 32nd overall in the first round of the event.
During the 2024 NHL Free Agency, GM Stan Bowman went out and signed Victor Arvidsson, Jeff Skinner, and a handful of returning players to the team from last year's campaignβall taking place in July.
As August approached, so did a desperate move by the St. Louis Blues organization to acquire Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway to ever-so-modest contracts at the time. Currently sitting at 8th in the Central Division.
This shift became an unnoticeable change of attitude, more or less a stigma in the team's attitude toward each other. Before the two could sign with the St. Louis Blues club, Bowman traded away Codi Ceci, another intricate part of the locker room.
The beginning of the pre-season for the Oilers team
The team's noticeable struggles developed as the pre-season began, so the chemistry needed to be fine-tuned with the ingredients added to the roster. The issue was the distraction caused by the media that the team had to deal with.
The defensive aspect of the team was highly criticized due to Ceci and Broborg's departure and then the team's acquisitions, Ty Emberson and Vasily Pokolzin. Who seemed to have shifted the tide with their remarkable physical presence and productivity on ice.
The start of the Regular Season in the NHL for the Edmonton Oilers
The start of the season saw the Oil team go the wrong way in the standings, going three losses in the opening frame of the season. Winning two games straight, however, losing another two games, winning another back-to-back, has led to a positive record percentage.
We are at the end of December, and the team started the month by accumulating a record of eight wins and two losses during that timespan, with one overtime loss to the Kings.
They will be playing the Utah Hockey Club on New Years Eve at 7 PM Mountain Time Zone to close out the year.
