After a great 8 game winning streak the Edmonton Oilers have now lost 2 games in a row. In a season where they started so poorly, they can’t afford to get on another losing streak. Now I am well aware that the Oilers can’t win every game, but I would like to see them at least 2 of 3 games moving forward.

This six-game “road trip” has the potential to start another winning streak for them. Not only that there are 3 important games against inter-division teams after Christmas. The first three games come against the New York teams, the Islanders, Rangers and Devils. These are all teams the Oilers have played already.

They have already beaten the Islanders and Devils in Edmonton this season, but they got shut out by the Rangers. This is why I think these New York games could be 3 wins for the Edmonton Oilers. If they win them they will be well on their way back into a playoff spot.

The first game on the trip will be the trendsetter. If the Edmonton Oilers have a solid game against the Islanders and prove they have tightened up their defensive end, then I think the rest of the road trip will be a success.

Not only will Tuesday’s night game be important to stop the current 2 game losing streak, but I think it will be a great start to a winning streak and right now the Oilers need as many winning streaks as possible. They are currently 5 points out of the final wild card with 2 games in hand. If they win both the games they have in hand they will be only one point out.

I still think the Edmonton Oilers will make the playoffs, even after such a bad start. If they’re able to win on Tuesday I think that will be on their way to another playoff appearance this year.
