After losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday the Edmonton Oilers lose to another Flordia-based team as the Oilers lose 5-1 to the Florida Panthers. In a game where I hoped they would not start a losing streak, they are now on a 2 game-losing streak.

5. 97. 1. 148. Final

The Edmonton Oilers were not short of chances to take this win, but there was around a 30-second gap in their game where I think they lost a game. The Oilers were looking to be only down one heading into the second period. Then at the 18:58 and 19:27 mark, the Oilers went from being only down 1 to being down 3.

At that point, I knew the Edmonton Oilers were not going to win this game. In the past, the Oilers have given up quickly back-to-back goals and in those games, they tend to not win. Tonight was no different.

Goalie Bob Made Saves When It Mattered

I am not here to give the Oilers any excuses, but if you were watching this game and didn’t think to yourself that if the Edmonton Oilers had a goalie like Sergei Bobrovsky they would be much better. There were a few times when I thought for sure that there was going to be an Oilers goal, but Bobrovsky made a spectacular save.

If the Oilers had a goalie that could make a 10-bell save when the team breaks down then this team would be that much better of a team. For the Edmonton Oilers, I think they have a goalie in Skinner who makes the saves he is supposed to, but I would like a goalie who makes saves he shouldn’t.

The  Edmonton Oilers Just Need To Be Better

There is no use for the players or even the fans to let this game sit on their minds for too long. All that matters. The Oilers will get a chance to put a hard stop to this streak on Tuesday against the New York Islanders.

The Oilers will now head out on the road for 6 games, although the Christmas break is in the middle. The road trip has a mix of winnable games and some litmus test games. Unfortunately, the Oilers can’t afford to go on road trips and have a losing record. That means they need to beat the teams they are supposed to beat.

Oilers @ Islanders 5:30 PM, Tuesday, December 19

Oilers @ Devils 5:30 PM, Thursday, December 21

Oilers @ Rangers 5:30 PM, Friday, December 22

Oilers @ Sharks 8:30 PM, Thursday, December 28

Oilers @ Kings 8:00 PM, Saturday, December 30

Oilers @ Ducks 6:00 PM, Sunday, December 31

Next. Stuart Skinner deserves a break despite horrific outing for Oilers. dark

A lot of importance should be placed on this road trip. If they struggle their season could be all, but over. On the other hand, If they can find success then I think there will be no doubt this team will be back to being a Stanley Cup contender.
