Every week TSN releases an updated version of NHL Power Rankings. The staff at TSN rank which teams they think are playing the best right now and who would be most likely to win the Stanley Cup. Right now they have the Edmonton Oilers climbing up the ranks.

There is no doubt that the Edmonton Oilers started the season off slow, but they are slowly starting to turn things around. This is starting to show in the power rankings. Although the Oilers are ranked 29th in league standings TSN has the Oilers ranked 12th in their power rankings after being ranked 18th last week.

If you have watched any of the Edmonton Oilers last few games it is hard to argue with this fact. The Oilers are currently on a winning streak and have a record of 7-3 in their last 10. I think they are starting to heat up.

This is mostly due to the heating up of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. There is no surprise that the Edmonton Oilers live and die as these two players live and die. Not only are Draisaitl and McDavid the two best players on the Oilers, but they are two of the best players in the league.

Even though the Oilers are 8 points out of a playoff spot I do not doubt that barring a slough of injuries this Edmonton Oilers team will be in a playoff spot come April. Being 12th in the power rankings shows me that this isn’t just a hometown take.

The Edmonton Oilers are back on the ice tomorrow after not having played since last Thursday where they beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-1. The Carolina Hurricanes are in town. The Oilers have already lost 6-3 to the Canes on November 22, so this will be a good litmus test to see if the Oilers have improved.

Coming off such a long time with no games is a double-edged sword. It helps heal all the bumps and bruises but it could also take away the momentum that the team had going for it. We will have to wait to see which way it goes
