Another terrible performance brought forward by the Edmonton Oilers shows that this team seems to be what it is. I don’t think there is any more hope that this team can get better. It has been 18 games, this is the team.

To try and get the players to play better there are only a few things that a team can do. The issue with the Edmonton Oilers is they have already fired most of their bullets and none of them have worked.

They fired their head coach after a win then went on to win a few games that I think they would have won with Woodcroft or Knoblauch behind the bench. They also sent down Jack Campbell, their $5 million goalie, to show the team that no one is safe.

There is really only one move left that could shock this team straight. That is to make a trade. A trade could spark this team, a player removed and a new player put in could change the attitude of this team and could turn the season around.

Edmonton Oilers Making A Trade Now Would Be A HUGE Mistake

It may be the only way the Oilers could turn the season around, but it would be a terrible time for them to make a trade. When dealing from an area of weakness you are bound to lose the trade. The way this season is looking they can’t afford to lose a trade.

If the Edmonton Oilers are to make a trade that does improve their team it is going to cost them an arm and a leg. It would for sure involve a first-round pick, which at this rate is going to be a top 10 pick. They could try to not include a first-rounder, but every other team in the NHL will want that pick.

The other teams aren’t here to help the Oilers get out of their funk. They want to win, so if the Oilers call them for a trade there is no reason why they would help them out unless it benefits them more than it would benefit the Oilers.

At this point in the season, the Edmonton Oilers need to figure things out internally. If they can turn things around then maybe they can make a trade to upgrade their team at the deadline. If they can’t turn things around they at least can be sellers at the deadline and hopefully get something to help the team out next year.
