Yesterday the Edmonton Oilers announced that they had put Jack Campbell on waivers for purpose of reassignment to the Bakersfield Condors. This means that the Oilers will be calling up Calvin Pickard in his place.

The real question about this move is how is replacing the backup goalie going to make this team better. The answer is honestly it won’t make this team any better on paper. The reason is the quality of chances this team gives up you could have any goalie in the net and a lot of these goals would still go in.

The Edmonton Oilers Needed To Do Something?

As much as I think this move does nothing on paper. I think the hope is this move will shock some of the players into playing better. With the amount of money Campbell is making it proves that no one is safe.

Campbell from all appearances was a well-liked guy in the room. So, seeing one of your buddies sent down to the minors can be a wake-up call. The Oilers players need a really big wake-up. This season they have seemed to be almost lifeless.

In a perfect world, this move will wake up the whole team and everyone will play better. No player has played well so far this season. We have seen glimpses of good from everyone, but this team needs everyone to click at once.

The Edmonton Oilers will face the league-worse San Jose Sharks on Thursday. The Sharks finally got their first win on Tuesday as they beat the Flyers. This game should be a win for the Oilers. It is a perfect game for the Oilers to get back into a groove.

Next. Considering where the Oilers go with their goalie situation. dark

If they win against the Seattle Kraken in the next game then I will start to believe in this team again. Till they put a few good efforts in a row together there will be no trusting the Oilers. Once they get on a roll I think it will be no time till they are back in the Stanley Cup conversation.
