Edmonton Oilers Firing The GM Solves Nothing

Amongst the struggles of the team like the Edmonton Oilers rumours start to swirl about firing the coach, making a trade or firing the GM. Of all these options there is one that makes no sense to me as to why people want to see it.

The firing of the General Manager would have zero effect on the way this team plays. This team is lacking what looks like the will to live. They are easily broken down and they just can’t seem to play a whole 60 minutes.

So what would getting rid of Ken Holland do in that aspect? He doesn’t talk to these players daily if he even really sees the players at all. So him being replaced would have no instant change on this team.

Yes, you can argue that it is his fault that the team is in this spot because of the personnel in place. His replacement wouldn’t be able to change anything to quickly flip this Edmonton Oilers team around. Not to mention I don’t really know what kind of choices Holland can make right now.

If you are going to make a coaching/management change the best move would be a coaching change. Woodcroft sees these players and communicates with them daily. If the management wants to try and get these players to play perhaps that would be a move.

If they moved to a different coach, maybe they could get a little bit of a bump in play. That is what happened when they originally brought in Jay Woodcroft. At this point in the season and how they are playing a little bump could be just what this team needs.

At the end of the day, they could completely fire everyone in the organization, but it all comes down the the players on the ice. If they start playing a hard solid game in the defensive zone and play 60 minutes of it then we don’t care how it happens.
