The Heritage Classic is tomorrow and the Edmonton Oilers couldn’t be playing much worse heading into the game. They currently have a record of 1-5-1 after their first 7 games. The Heritage Classic is a good time to turn the ship around.

The Edmonton Oilers will face the Calgary Flames in the Heritage Classic on Sunday. The Flames are not off to much better of a start than the Oielrs. The Flames record is on 2-5-1. If the Oilers win on Sunday they would have the exact same record.

An Edmonton Oilers Win On A Big Stage Would Build Momentum

As much as the Heritage Classic counts for the same amount of points in the standings as every other reagualr season game, it is simply not the same.

This game will be nationally viewed in Canada, but also in the USA. This means there is going to be much more media attetnion on it. It will have as much hype as a playoff game. So I would think the players will treat it as such.

This means just like playoff game you will be able to take momentume from it and have it carry over into the next game. So this is a good chance for the winner of this game to get on a winning streak and hopefully start putting some wins together. Hopefully, that team will be the Edmonton Oilers.

A Win Is Important, But Not More Important Than The Rest Of The Season

Going into this game Connor McDavid has sort of muscualr injury and still doesn’t know if he will be healthy enough to play in Sunday’s game. If I am the Edmonton Oilers I would not rush him back into this game.

Although the NHL and all of its sponsers will be pushing to have the best player in the world in the game on full display, it is not worth it for the Oilers to risk making the injury worse. It sucks to not have him play in this type of event, It would be much worse if he only played a period and a half and agrivated his injury a missed the next 2 months.

I understand the improtace that McDavid brings not only to the Edmonton Oilers, but to the whole NHL, but you also can roll the dice on his health moving forward.

Next. Leon Draisaitl needs to step up for Oilers in Connor McDavid’s absence. dark

Enviroment Canada is showing a high of 0°C for Sunday. This is ideal temperature for the fans as it won’t be freezing like it was 20 years ago and it will also be good conditions for the ice. I expect this to be a hard fought game for both teams.

This game will mean more than just the two points. It will build both momentum and confidence for the winning team. Those two things could help carry these teams to winning streak and could catipult them back up in the standings.
